The New Immortal Chapter One

I was walking home one night. The Wisconsin sky was completely dark and there was no one around. I was coming back from a long walk that I took.

I lived out in the country with very little neighbors. Each house was about a block away from each other.

My long and straight, light auburn hair was pulled in a pony tail, keeping the back of my neck cool. It always made me feel more comfortable in the heat. My bangs were flying away from my face.

I walked a long time. It may not of seemed like that far a walk, but it was pretty long. Especially for a slow walker like me.

While I turned a corner, I bumped into a man. He was tall, with a chiseled face. He wore a leather jacket and his hair was the most amazing shade of brown that I had ever seen. He looked to be of 17, my age. He smiled.

"Excuse me." I stated simply.

"That's fine." The man replied. He opened his mouth to say something, but closed it quickly.

I wasn't sure what to think. He was handsome alright, but he reminded me of a creeper, or stalker, or something.

There was a look in his eyes that wanted something from me. I just wasn't sure what. It looked like hunger. Or maybe it was fear.

I started to walk away, but he grabbed my arm and pulled me to the ground.

"What the hell?" I screamed at him.

"Don't you walk away from me!" The man screamed back. "You can't leave. At least not until I'm finished with you."

I wasn't sure what he meant, but I was about to find out.

He grabbed me by the arm and pushed me against a tree. Pain shot through my back as I screamed.

The next thing I knew, he looked at me with hungry eyes. Hungry, like a person would look as if they would die if they didn't have anything to eat.

Then, in that moment, I knew exactly what was happening, because his teeth, at first sparkling white and straight, we're now pointed like fangs.

Only one thought crossed my mind.

He was a vampire.

But he couldn't be. Vampires didn't exist right? At least not in reality.

Then, before I could make any sudden move or sound, his teeth sank into my neck, sending pain through my body. I screamed a blood curdling scream and I could feel nothing but pain in my neck. The smell of blood wafted my nose, making me feel dizzier than I already was.

I tried to kick the man somehow, but only ended up getting kicked back. The man's fangs left my neck and went to my arm. I screamed louder, as he drained me of my blood.

I was going to die. I was sure of it.

This couldn't be happening. What would happen to my parents? My friends? I couldn't die. I was too young.

All of a sudden, my thoughts were interrupted when someone else took the vampire and threw him off of me. I wanted to see who it was, but I was too dizzy to be able to open my eyes.

Then, in what seemed to be minutes later, I felt someone come by my side. Their hands were strong and big.

"Are you okay? Are you hurt? What's your name?" The person inquired.

"I'm Sabrina. Sabrina Adams." I grumbled. My neck and arm hurt really bad, making it hard to speak.

"You'll be okay." The voice replied soothingly. "You'll be fine."

The person lifted me up and that was the last thing I remember before I lapsed into unconsciousness.

Some while later, I woke up in a bed, one that was not mine.

I tried to sit up, but failed due to my injuries. My neck hurt so bad and my arm stung like a thousand acupuncture needles in your skin.

"What happened?" I whispered to myself.

"You were bit by a vampire." The same voice that had rescued me spoke. I opened my eyes to find a man who looked like be could be in his 20s. His hair was a light blonde and his eyes were a dark green.

"Who are you?" I said to him, a frown on my face. "How did you know I was in trouble?"

"Easy there." The man said with a slight smile. "I am Patrick Bennett. I am a vampire myself."

What? How?! A vampire? Now I had to have been dreaming.

"What?" I practically screamed at him. The scream made my throat hurt even worse.

"I know it's a lot to take in." Patrick said. "You have to let me explain."

"I don't want to let you explain." I stated simply. "I want to go home."

Patrick frowned. "I'm afraid you can't right now. There are things that you need to know."

"Oh really?" I said. "Like what?" I was getting tired of this.

"Well," Patrick started "first of all, there are some things you need to be aware of. You are turning."

"What?" I asked. This was getting ridiculous.

"You are turning into a vampire." Patrick said with a slight frown. "I know, it sounds crazy but... It's true."

"How?" I asked. "How is it that this happened? Aren't vampires supposed to not exist?"

Patrick frowned. "No. They aren't. Vampires have been around for centuries. I am one of them. Soon, you will be too."

I looked at him with confusion. Vampires? Really?

"Yes, really." Patrick said, reading my thoughts.

"How did you do that?" I asked.

"I told you, I'm a vampire. We can read minds, we burn in the sun, and we can tell people to do something and they'll do it." Patrick said.

"Wait, so you don't sparkle?" I asked with a smile. Patrick frowned again.

"No. We sure as hell don't sparkle." He seemed annoyed. Good.

"No. Not good." He remarked. "Just listen, please."

He talked soothingly and somehow, I felt the need to listen. This must be the thing he was telling me about. Telling people to do things and they do it.

"You are exactly right." Patrick said.

"Okay, I'll listen." I agreed. "But one question first. Why does my throat burn?" I asked. It did. It burned terribly like it's been on fire forever.

"That's what I'm going to talk about." He said. "That is your thirst. Your thirst for blood. You want the blood to sooth your throat. If you don't drink the blood, then your throat burns, eventually making you burn to death."

This was a lot to take in. First of all, where would I get the blood? Would I have to kill innocent people?

Wait. No. Was I even sure this was true? I couldn't be a vampire. It's not possible.

"It is possible." Patrick said.

"God, would you stop doing that?" I nearly screamed at him. He only smiled in response.

"Sorry. I just haven't dealt with one like you before." He laughed. "But, no you don't have to kill innocent people. I am a doctor at St. Ashes hospital. I organize a blood drive every week. Half of the blood goes to the people who need it and the other half goes to my secret stash."

"So, how will I get it?" I asked him, still not sure if I was processing correctly.

"If you let me help you, and teach you how to be a vampire, I can give you the blood that you need." Patrick replied.

"Okay. What do you mean by teaching me to be a vampire?" I asked him. "It seems pretty simple."

"Oh, you're completely wrong. It's not simple at all when you are starting." Patrick said. "When you become a vampire, your temper gets out of hand sometimes. When I first became one, I got angry at almost anything that got in my way. If people walked past me and they accidentally bumped into me, I'd lose my temper. You need to be careful on how you control your temper." He said.

"Is that why I felt angrier than usual towards you than I normally do to others?" I asked Patrick, feeling remorse now.

"Yes." He replied.

"So..." I started to say "How exactly did I turn?"

"Ah." Patrick replied. "I was hoping you'd ask that. When that other vampire attacked you, he was not only sucking your blood, he was giving you his own."

"What? That doesn't make sense." I explained.

"Well, a vampire can either drain you of your blood completely, making you die, or they can give you their own as well, making you a vampire." Patrick told me.

I guess it makes sense. "But why I'd he want me to be a vampire?" I asked him.

"That's the problem." Patrick replied. "I have no clue."

That was a good question. Maybe he wanted a vampire army or something. I have no idea, as long as I'm out if it now.

"What did you do to the vampire who attacked me?" I asked Patrick.

He smiled. "That's the beauty of being a vampire. You have the most amazing powers that you could never dream of. Anyway, I killed him."

"Thank god!" I smiled.

"Yes, thank god." He agreed.

It was quiet for a while then. Once in a while, Patrick and I would talk about our lives and what we did for fun.

It turns out that Patrick was a very good doctor. He wasn't married, and he never loved any one. That was a shame because he was really nice and he was gorgeous.

He had deep green eyes that pulled you in when he spoke. His hair was an amazing light blonde color that glistened in any light.

I would date him if I could but, unfortunately, he was 23 and I was only 17.

At least he gave me a break from all the vampire crap.

Still, there was one thing that bothered me.

My throat.

It burned terribly and I wish I could ask Patrick for something to calm the pain. I just didn't want to spoil the moment.

"How's your throat?" Patrick asked me. He must have read my mind.

"Terrible!" I replied, although I was pretty sure he already knew that.

"Well, lets get you some blood then." He said with a smile.

As he left the room, thoughts thrashed around in my brain.

What would I do to my family? Would I lash out on them for no reason?

And the blood. How could I get the blood from Patrick? Especially when my parents were around. What did it taste like? I couldn't even imagine the taste of blood. Even just the thought of drinking it made my stomach churn yet, it also made me thirsty for it.

What about these special powers that Patrick was talking about? Did I have super strength? The power to move quickly?

Being a vampire was going to be tough...
